3 days after FB deal, popular mobile messaging app WhatsApp experienced an outage for around 5:48 p.m EST (22:48 GMT). WhatsApp's 450 million worldwide users were unable to access the smartphone free-messaging service on Saturday. "Sorry we currently experience server issues. We hope to be back up and recovered shortly," WhatsApp said in a message on Twitter that was retweeted more than 25,000 times in just a few hours and provoked ridicule because it comes so soon after Facebook's hefty acquisition. WhatsApp is the leader among a wave of smartphone-based messaging apps that are now sweeping across North America, Asia and Europe, and is known to appeal to teens and others who avoid mainstream social networks.
