The popular multiplatform messaging app, WhatsApp, is now a free download for iOS devices. Users will no longer need to pay 99 cents to download it. Now the app for iOS platform is like its variant for the Android OS -- use all its features for free for a year, and then pay 99 cents for every additional year thereafter. The app, developed by ex-Yahoo engineers, Brian Acton and Jan Koum in 2009, currently boasts of nearly 250 million users, and faces stiff competition from many other similar products like Viber, Nimbuzz, Kik, Line and We Chat.
