First, you need to create a free Palvu account and search for and add Facebook friends (you need to grant Palvu access to Facebook). The only catch is that your friends need to be using Palvu too. You can control which friends can view your current location. Since no ‘checking in’ is required, your friends can locate and send you an IM through the app and vice versa. The app can also send push notifications for new requests or messages. One drawback is that the app uses a background GPS location service which usually has a major impact on a phone’s battery life.
